Steven Bamidele

Steven Bamidele

Hyped to welcome back Steven Bamaidele as he tours keenly anticipated forthcoming sophomore album 'THE CRASH!.

Nigerian-born, London-based singer, songwriter, musician and producer Steven Bamidele presents a sonically rich exploration of purpose, doubt and personal reckoning. Written against the backdrop of an ever-changing world, the new album combines soul, rock and jazz, acoustic and electronic textures, along with daydream-esque storytelling for a thought-provoking journey in pursuit of something real in an age of hyper-curation and superficiality.

At its core, 'THE CRASH!' is a soulful meditation on the weight we place on relationships, the fundamental cost of growth and the search for direction in an imperfect world. It's a deeply personal project, shaped by Steven's own journey through faith, disillusionment and self-discovery. Raised in a strictly Christian household, Steven's first crisis of belief came at 17, when he began questioning the very foundations of existence. As his faith unravelled, music became his new guiding force-a source of direction, discipline and identity. But as he turned 30, disillusionment crept in once again. The stark realities of the music industry, coupled with global uncertainty, reignited that same despondent weight he had battled in his youth.

"It was an intoxicating feeling when I was younger and had no responsibilities, to foolishly believe I was the first person in history who'd worked something out that no one else had. It gave me this twisted sense of power and was a big creative motivator. Where I'm at now, nihilism is debilitating, boring and unhelpful. I've worked to find a way to channel those feelings into this project. I'm really proud of it" - Steven Bamidele

His last appearance at the Galli was something special - this is not to be missed.

Yesterday's Girl

Yesterday's Girl are a "captivating" (Sofar Sounds) five-piece act blending indie rock, alt-pop and new wave genres with playful storytelling. Taking inspiration from Blondie and Talking Heads, the Bristol natives and adoptees combine eighties style with a seventies sensibility that is best experienced up close and personal.

Cutting their teeth on Bristol's thriving music scene, they've secured billing at prominent venues and festivals since November 2024. Pulling in crowds at DD Festival, Valley Fest, and at Sofar Sounds latest stop at Bristol Old Vic, they're ones to watch. Join them at the Gallimaufry on the 24th Sep off the back of recording their debut record as they amp up to play their biggest gig to date at Thekla later in the autumn.

The Other Way

The Other Way

If there is another way - for this inspiringly unique mix of musical voices - then it lies beyond easy categorisation. While elements of jazz, folk and soul coalesce here, The Other Way have a chemistry that's more than the sum of it's parts, creating a cocktail of lyrical song writing and improvisation, with songs reflecting on humanity's place in nature. Sampled sounds of birds and other animals are part of the instrumentation, wailing against a deep, paired back groove.

The band is led by trumpet player and composer Rowan Porteous, who has combined music with a career in nature conservation. An established voice on the south west music scene, when not saving creatures from extinction, Porteous has been seen performing with Highlife Jazz fusion band Baraka and in Gifford's Circus, among many others.

After receiving Arts Council development funding, the band released their debut album 'Learning to Be' in 2024, and have performed to rapt Audiences around the South West, including Cheltenham Jazz Festival, as well as being playlisted on Jazz FM and receiving great reviews in Jazzwise and Jazz Journal among others.

Chubaby + Poor Old Dogs

Chubaby + Poor Old Dogs

The return of two of our favourite artists for a not to be missed get down double-header.

Chubaby combines social commentary and surrealist modern storytelling, drawing on a DIY tradition akin to the likes of R. Stevie Moore and Jeffrey Lewis. Chubaby has been described as 'very clever' by Amy Lamé, BBC 6 Music and 'a witty and wonderfully imaginative multi-instrumentalist', Isaak Lewis Smith, Electronic Sound Magazine. Having just released new album 'Almost Unbearable', Chubaby is on the road through September and for the Bristol leg they're gracing The Gallimaufry stage.

Poor Old Dogs are a riotous folk band from Bristol, bringing beer-soaked mayhem and foot-stomping energy to the timeless traditions of UK and Irish folk music. Having been playing together for over a decade, they've honed their craft and their chaos, with a knack for turning any gig into a rollicking, rowdy singalong.

They deliver raucous tunes, wild stories, and the kind of chaos that pairs perfectly with a pint (or three), performing both traditional music and their own self-penned songs.

This is going to be a fun one!

ZENA's Folk Jam

Zena is a Neo-soul and folk artist who found her beginnings as a musician in the vibrant folk community that resides in the South West, and more specifically Devon. Drawing inspiration from the folk jams and singarounds that would happen in pubs and venues throughout tiny villages and towns in Dartmoor, these spaces served as an incredibly inclusive outlet for musicians and music lovers of all levels and ages. Zena now aims to bring this love of music, dance and folk to the Galli for a one night only folk jam, with sounds reminiscent of bands such as Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span. With a range of talented musicians joining in the house band, such as violinist Miranda Faye, guitarist Ollie Armstrong, and Lapsteel instrumentalist Will Murphy to name a few, we encourage as a collective to bring down your instruments in a free for all night of laughter, music and dance.
