Eve Appleton Band Presents

Simply some of our favourites… all night, with us… lucky you.

So here they are, hosted by the Bridport storyteller poet Dylan Ross, the guests of honour (including Dylan) are:

Myer U Clark is a gentle Bristol-based singer-songwriter and melody fanatic.

An obsessive of old English folk tunes and PC Music equally, he has a penchant for the emotional and the absurd; especially in folk and theatrical musical environments - and his conscientious vocals overlaid on intricately fingerpicked guitar melodies have drawn comparisons with artists like John Martyn and Nick Drake.

Eva Penney Band is captivating and at times cutting, she has always been honest in her music, constantly treading an uneasy line between metaphor and truth.

With a sound inspired by alternative and acoustic folk, the electronic and DIY elements weaved into her recordings and performances create a unique and warming listening experience.

XAV + Milly Upton + Jusjim

XAV + Milly Upton + Jusjim

This is Xav Clarke's first gig in his new hometown of Bristol. Joined by an old friend (Milly) and a new friend (Jim) as he stands in the transition of two worlds - playing a show that brings his past into harmony with his future here - we're all looking forward to hearing them jamming it out to you in the present as we set sail on a new journey together...

Xav Clarke is an artist blurring the lines between homespun philosophical lyric writing and wonked-out cinematic soundscapes informed by his composition work for animation and film. His songs are about the personal amidst the enormous, life between extinctions, set to a psychedelic folk soundtrack where everything that bleeps and bloops is covered in moss and someone's dug out some enthusiasm for life from between the rocks. Fresh from the release of his highly anticipated album 'Fossil Forest' -produced by Mercury Prize winner Mike Lindsay (Tunng / LUMP) - Xav takes his kaleidoscopic psychedelic indie pop to the stage.

Jusjim is well known to the Galli stage as drummer of the pioneering Waldo's Gift crew. Mixing melodic jazz phrases with angular electronic rhythms and the raw energy of punk and metal, James' rhythmic approach is truly unique. Hear his ever-evolving, mind-blowing solo project and find out if a fox ate his shoes last night. We love this man!

Raised in Brighton surrounded by the music of Rickie Lee Jones, Joni Mitchell and Joan Armatrading, Milly Upton got her start in music young. With a voice that evokes memories of the Greenwich Village scene in 1970, Milly carries listeners away with her gently swaying indie pop songs.

An incredible free entry line-up, the start of something truly beautiful. Welcome, Xav.

Hibiscus with support from Ben Cipolla

Hibiscus are an up and coming NEO-SOUL duo, based in Bristol. After meeting at college in Exeter, Eva and Lily have built a strong musical collaboration, strengthened by their palpable synergy and close friendship. Likened to artists such as Eloise, Cleo Sol and Nai Palm, their wholesome and tender songwriting draws from their experiences as young women navigating adulthood.

After performing around Bristol for a year as a duo, they are making their band debut here at the Gallimaufry, with a selection of incredibly talented musicians and friends. Expect intricate harmonies and emotive lyricism, as they serenade you through an evening of love, laughter and maybe some tears.

BEN CIPOLLA has cemented his reputation as ‘one to watch’ on the UK music scene, captivating audiences with his effortlessly joyous performances and knack for crafting irresistibly catchy songs. Known for his warm, sun-dappled sound, Cipolla continues to evolve as a songwriter, weaving new stories and influences into his music.

Currently working on his next album, Cipolla builds on the success of his previous release, Casa Mia, which explored his deepening connection to his Sicilian heritage. His new project promises to further showcase his signature blend of jazz-infused melodies, soulful vocals, and heartfelt lyricism.

Born and raised in Wiltshire and now based in Bristol, Cipolla has garnered airplay on BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1, and BBC Radio 2. His impressive live performances have seen him support respected artists such as Edgelarks and Ninebarrow, perform at the BBC Swing Jazz Prom at the Royal Albert Hall with Clare Teal, and share lineups with the likes of Gregory Porter at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. He has also appeared at Manchester Jazz Festival, WOMAD, and Shambala Festival, further solidifying his place as an exciting and dynamic artist on the rise.

MLY with support from Joely June

A double-header not to be missed.

MLY (alt pop/folk)
Following from a spellbinding stripped back set supporting Ivor Novello Rising Star nominee Ashaine White in February, MLY returns to The Gallimaufry for a full-band headline show. Bristol-based artist MLY blends alt-pop and folk to create ‘sad-gal-campfire-bangers’ inspired by the likes of Blondie, Garbage and Daughter. Her self-produced sound merges live instrumentation with airy synths and intricate samples, creating a distinctive blend that’s both introspective and expansive. Live, she is joined by Miranda Faye on violin and vocals, Louis Cherniavsky on bass and Issy Rose on drums.

Her latest single, Dog Fight, embraces healing and growth in opposition to feral reactivity. The track showcases her growth in production and further pushes the boundaries of her lyricism following previous singles Madonna and Lovers. Her releases have seen support from BBC Bristol, BBC Introducing, Ujima Radio, Bristol 247, and Clunk Magazine. Recent performances include iconic Bristol venues Rough Trade, Thekla, Louisiana, and Crofters Rights, intimate sets for Sofar Sounds, as well as festivals including Dot to Dot and Harbourfest.

JOELY JUNE (folk)
A soft gut punch of soaring melodies, gritty slide guitar and ear worm hooks that'll engulf you like a warm hug.
