Glossolalia return to The Galli reworking a selection of Lonnie Liston Smith’s classics with a modern jazz flavour using synthesisers, hip-hop rhythms and improvised solos.
Liston is considered a prominent figure in ‘spiritual jazz’ who, alongside others such as Pharoah Sanders & Alice Coltrane, incorporated elements of spirituality and cosmic consciousness into their music, often through extended improvisations and atmospheric textures.
His records were heavily sampled throughout hip-hop by artists such as Jay-Z, A Tribe Called Quest and The Notorious B.I.G, and are commonly referenced in jazz to this day.
Free entry, music from 9pm. For more information, visit Headfirst.
